Cosplay Trends You’ll See in 2018

Behind every cosplayer is a passionate fan that taps into their creative skills to emulate a character that they connect with personally. These characters come from classic comics, superhero movies, animated TV series, cartoons, and anime. Bringing these looks to life with some of the most inventive techniques in makeup and hair, cosplayers inspire even the most seasoned beauty professionals. In fact, some of the most talented special effects makeup artists or stylists that work in Hollywood got their start in cosplay making costumes for comic conventions.

Each year we look forward to seeing new looks brought to life by amatuers and professionals alike. With looks ranging from classic to futuristic, here are some of the ones we anticipate seeing more of during 2018:

  1. Wonderful Indeed
  2. With a confirmed Wonder Woman sequel in the works, this siren of a superhero is not going away any time soon.

  3. Fantastic Elastigirl
  4. The matriarch of The Incredibles family is also set to return to the big screen this year, so get ready to see Mrs. Incredible stretch her way into your selfies in 2018.

  5. Lara Croft, Tomb Raider 2.0
  6. The cinematic reboot about the infamous video game character already has cosplayers dusting off their older sister’s Halloween costume from 2001 and reworking it for conventions everywhere.

  7. Poppin’ Fresh
  8. With the indelible Emily Blunt bringing the no-nonsense nanny to a theater near you, Mary Poppins is the cosplay costume sure to make the “medicine go down.”

  9. Mononoke Mania
  10. No cosplay convention would be complete without sightings of many Mononoke’s, and for good reason: Princess Mononoke is classic anime cosplay at its finest!

  11. Wakanda-rrific
  12. And finally, cosplayers worldwide know that they need to make an heroic attempt at a Black Panther costume if they are going to earn their stripes in 2018. From lower ranked warrior to the fearless General Okoye, these cosplay looks have us shouting “Wakanda Forever!”
