Is Esthetics Right For Me?

estheticsIn the world of beauty, there are several vocational paths you can follow. Cosmetologists are generalists with a specialization in hair styling. Manicurists focus on nail art and healthy hands. Estneticians are skin specialists. Esthetics is the study and practice of professional skincare, from how to nourish healthy skin and treat skin conditions to the skilled application of chemical and laser skin treatments.

Becoming an esthetician requires a passion for skin care, working closely with clients to unveil their inner beauty. An esthetician might work in a salon, spa, or even a dermatology clinic. The question is: Is esthetics the right career for you?

We’d love to help you discover the answer.

What Does an Esthetician Do?

Estheticians  are all about skin including treatments that affect the skin or influence skin health. Estheticians often perform services like facials, peels, waxing, skin treatments, and makeup application. They have access to a wide range of possible working environments and career paths from spas to the medical field, working along side therapists, dermatology doctors, and beyond.

Estheticians help people achieve glowing, healthy skin, no matter what specific career path you follow.

Personality Traits and Skills of a Successful Esthetician

What kind of person becomes an esthetician? The practice of esthetics calls for passion, communication, precision, and adaptability. Your creativity may be called upon for make up artistry or personalized skincare treatments and you will always find yourself working closely with clients because each person’s skin – and the right treatments for their skin – are unique.

Consider these traits and skills and whether you see a reflection of yourself or someone you want to become.

  • Passion for beauty, wellness, and skincare.
  • Strong communication and people skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to provide a high level of customer service.
  • Flexibility and adaptability in work environments.
  • Creativity and artistic ability (for makeup and skincare treatments).

Do You Have a Passion for Helping Others?

Those in the beauty career often have a passion for beauty and unleashing the inner beauty of their clients. But estheticians take this passion one step further. Estheticians are driven to help clients overcome skincare challenges and achieve skincare goals. Many people struggle with their complexion, from rough pores to spots of discoloration to persistent rosacia.
