FAFSA

The first step to starting the financial aid process is to fill out a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®) form. Your FAFSA form combined with your tax return information will determine if you qualify for federal grant money, PLUS loans, and other options. If you’ve never filled out one before, read this list of things you’ll need to help you prepare for this important step. Our team of financial aid advisors can also walk you through your form and answer any questions you have when you come to visit us for a tour.

Here are some options available after you fill out your FAFSA® form:

Direct Subsidized and Unsubsidized Loans

A student loan is money you borrow that you will be expected to pay back after graduating from school. Your financial need will decide if a subsidized or unsubsidized loan is right for you. Student loans are a common way for helping students finance their dream and our team is committed to helping you pick the right type of loan for you!

A subsidized loan is available to students who are able to show their financial need from their FAFSA® form. The U.S. Department of Education can pay this type of loan’s interest while you’re a student and up to six months after graduation.

An unsubsidized loan is available for all students and there’s typically no need to demonstrate financial aid. Unlike a subsidized loan, the student will be responsible for paying for their loan’s interest as a student and after graduation. However, this is still a great option for many students who want to pursue their education.

Parent PLUS Loans

Parent PLUS loans allow parents who have qualifying credit to borrow from the government to help pay for their dependent child’s education tuition. Unlike subsidized and unsubsidized, this type of loan will be in the parent’s and child’s name.

Federal Pell Grant

Federal Pell Grants are awarded to students based on their financial need and the amount given will depend on each student’s situation. Unlike loans, students will normally not need to repay the amount of money that was given to them.
